Antique Hobart 2040 Electric Coffee Grinder – Works Great! This is an antique Hobart 2040 coffee burr grinder from the 1920s. The interior grinder mechanism has been disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled and has been in use producing ground coffee each morning. The upper bean hopper was missing the glass insert, so an acrylic insert was molded to display beans but allow for grinding of smaller batches at a time. This insert can be removed if desired. The upper hopper, which is aluminum, was polished to a high shine. The base and motor housing are heavy duty iron. The electric motor is 1/3hp and runs on a standard 115v outlet. The front dial adjusts the space between a metal plate and the burrs to allow for grinds of varying sizes. The grind size adjustment works as designed and the burrs produce a consistent grind. The motor powers through large quantities of beans without any struggles, but is equally adept at grinding beans for a single cup of coffee. The space between the grinder and the base accommodates a lower hopper that is not available, but for household use a standard French press easily fits to catch coffee grounds.
