Rare Suffolk Iron Foundry LTD, manual coffee grinder dated 1920 Refurbished not restored…. A great working grinder if you want evenly sized grounds with little dust. This was in bad shape when I bought it at a Goodwill store. I paint-stripped the peeling red paint, sand-blasted all the surfaces as best I could, cleaned the two gears, added bearings and washers, added a porcelain handle to the metal grounds bin, added an antique wooden handle and brass adjustment screw to the right wheel, added a wood platform with non skid padding, waxed the cast iron parts, and found a lid that slightly fits its not as nice as the original top would have been, but works. You can see that some of the original paint that would not come off even with course aluminum oxide sandblasting is still on the inside of the hopper and metal grounds bin. Also bits of red that would not release from inside the lettering on the wheels and base I have one like this in my kitchen that I use every day, adjusted to my favorite grounds size. Antique Hobart 2040 Electric Coffee Grinder – Works Great! This is an antique Hobart 2040 coffee burr grinder from the 1920s. The interior grinder mechanism has been disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled and has been in use producing ground coffee each morning. The upper bean hopper was missing the glass insert, so an acrylic insert was molded to display beans but allow for grinding of smaller batches at a time. This insert can be removed if desired. The upper hopper, which is aluminum, was polished to a high shine. The base and motor housing are heavy duty iron. The electric motor is 1/3hp and runs on a standard 115v outlet. The front dial adjusts the space between a metal plate and the burrs to allow for grinds of varying sizes. The grind size adjustment works as designed and the burrs produce a consistent grind. The motor powers through large quantities of beans without any struggles, but is equally adept at grinding beans for a single cup of coffee. The space between the grinder and the base accommodates a lower hopper that is not available, but for household use a standard French press easily fits to catch coffee grounds. A neat antique coffee grinder. In overall fair to good condition. Has a good label that is nearly complete. Has an interesting steel threaded cap for filling and a steel banded back drawer. Shows a small amount of damage, drawer front is chipped on the top left corner, also, the bottom board of the hopper is cracked and open and will need to be repaired if to be used. Slight hairline on the top board, top board may be missing a slight piece. Some other mild wear overall. Stands about 9-1/2″ tall and is about 6-1/2″ by 6-3/4. T his sale is for an original circa 1899 – 1920 wall mount ARCADE COFFEE GRINDER in excellent working condition. I believe the body of this grinder still retains the original factory paint job! I left it in its original state and just cleaned the interior and the surface dirt from this barn find. YOU’LL LOVE THIS COFFEE MILL!! I wish I could let you smell the aroma from the coffee beans I milled with this grinder. Who needs StarBucks or Dunkin’ Donuts when you have one of these! We use ours every single day and LOVE IT , LOVE IT , LOVE IT!! It is EXCELLENT WORKING CONDITION!! Please Note: This grinder is retains its original wing & tensioning nut for ground adjustment, two of the most often missing parts. The glass hopper jar is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips. The beautiful cast iron body of the grinder has NO cracks, chips, or repairs. The catch cup is a period piece replacement. It is PATENTED DECEMBER 22, 1903 in raised lettering on the bottom, as pictured. It measures about 19 1/2 from the top to the bottom of mounting board.
